The processing units
HoloLens processes millions of data items in milliseconds and, therefore, requires a lot of processing power. The wearable Windows 10 holographic device is built up with three "high end" processors as follows:
- Central Processing Units (CPU)
- Graphical Processing Units (GPU)
- Holographic Processing Units (HPU)
Although CPU and GPU are the most commonly used processing units used by all PCs, the most impressive part of HoloLens is its HPU0. The CPU (32-bit Intel-based), RAM, Wi-Fi chip, Bluetooth chip, and GPU are all on a tiny board and uniquely shaped for HoloLens. Understanding the real environment and rendering 3D holographic objects in the user view require a lot of processing power, and those are supplemented by the HPU.
