Spatial Mapping

Spatial Mapping is key for the holographic experience. It provides a detailed representation of real-world surfaces in the environment around HoloLens. Spatial Mapping collects all the information about the real world to use in the holographic world and allows developers to mix holograms into the world around you. The following figure illustrates a Spatial Mapping view from a HoloLens device:

We use Spatial Mapping to understand the environment and where real objects are. This helps the placement, navigation, and visualization of any holograms in the real space.

As we proceed toward development in upcoming chapters, we will explore all these interaction models in detail with real implementations.
